There is a club trip planned for this same weekend to the beautiful Chilco River and in no way do I want to compete with that, but the longer drive and rough road in won't allow us to have our trailer tag along... so I would like to do the Thompson... (it is kind of a Sept. long tradition anyway :). We plan on camping at Skihist which during previous Labour Day long weekends has had plenty of room... I expect the same will hold true this year. I just checked the water levels. On August 16 it was 780 m3/s (cubic meters per second) and it has been dropping steadily since July 22. If this trend continues at the same rate I predict it will be somewhere between 650 and 680 m3/s which should be a nice level. The Thompson is big water fun - drop pool paddling - warm, clear water, and magnificent views. Great put in and take out. The weather is typically stellar. The river app rates the run from Frog Rock to Lytton at III+. For a frame of reference, this same app rates the Chilli Classic run - Slesse to Tamihi at a class III. My personal comment is that it is a low consequence river, but if you do swim or want to walk out, it is doable at some sections, but the banks are generally steep. I would like to be leaving the campground on Saturday for our run at 11:00AM which will allow for some who may want to drive up Saturday morning. Sunday we could leave the campground at 9:30AM and perhaps on Monday at 9:00AM to allow for a decent return time back to the city on Monday afternoon.

Looks like it is running at 3.5. Open to paddling this morning or in the afternoon. Say 10:30 or 3:00. Any interest?
