On Saturday's run, a bunch of us saw a loose piece of rope in the middle of a small rapid above Mel's. When we came back on Sunday, we took the time to fish it out. First we tried throwing weighted throwbags to snag it. Nope! Then Dave tried snagging it with a long branch. Nope. Then Aaron made a wooden grappling hook out of a weighted throwbag and Dave was finally able to snag it. When we hauled it in, we pulled out approximately 15 meters of rope and a homemade "hook." See photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bUL2gMuG8auCdsFD6 Our best guess is that someone tried to fish a piece of wood out of the rapid using this hook, but the rope broke when they put (a lot!) of tension on it... thus creating an even worse hazard. The metal hook was actually right at the surface of the water. Several of us who saw it thought the metal grab loop on the end was a carabiner.

I have some paddling clothes & gear that never fit me and/or never got returned to the store in time. These items include a pair of brand new Astral Brewers (size 11), NRS All-Terrain boots, a Sweet Wanderer Helmet (blue, extraordinarily small size!), NRS Reactor Gloves (size L/XL), etc., etc. I plan to bring all this stuff up to the Chilliwack Social, so if you have any interest you can try things on/check them out there. Prices will be extremely reasonable... like 1/2 off or less for brand new or barely used stuff. I'll put a sign out in front of my camp at Tamihi.
